Position Title: Staff Education Instructor

 

Department: Education & Member Services
Location: TCMedia, Olympia, WA -- Office
Status:  3/4  Full-Time
Compensation: $18-24/hour (DOE)

Start Date: Dec 1 , 2025 tentative

Position Summary

The Staff Education Instructor focuses on designing and implementing, and leading TCMedia’s education and training programs including community classes, after-school camps, and workforce development initiatives. Additionally, the Instructor supports members and volunteers in creating their own productions, checkouts, and ensuring they receive guidance, resources, and a positive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities
Education (Primary Focus)
  • Develop and lead engaging media classes and education programs for youth and adults, including video production, podcasting, editing, and related creative media skills.

  • Design curriculum and lesson plans that align with TCMedia’s educational goals and community needs.

  • Coordinate and execute logistics for after-school programs, youth media camps, and special workshops.

  • Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement the Workforce Development Program, including outreach, partnerships, and hands-on learning components.

  • Evaluate and track educational outcomes to measure success and inform program improvement.

Member Support (Secondary Focus)
  • Provide member support for members, students, and volunteers on checkouts, reservations, and working on productions.

  • Aid on member productions and projects in the studio, field, and editing as needed

  • Assist in coordinating volunteers and student participants involved in member projects.

  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for all members.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Media Production, Communications, or related field.

  • Needs to have strong knowledge of video production gear and equipment****

  • Experience teaching or training others, preferably in media or creative arts.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple educational programs simultaneously.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to work effectively with diverse groups.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience developing curriculum or training materials.

  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, or similar editing software.

  • Experience mentoring youth or coordinating volunteers.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a creative, mission-driven organization.

📹 Production Support Intern 📹

As our Production Support Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in live and studio production, assisting TCMedia staff with filming, audio, lighting, live streaming, directing and set operations. This role is ideal for individuals who want to learn how professional media productions are executed from start to finish.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with studio and field equipment setup and teardown

  • Operate cameras, audio boards, and lighting under staff supervision

  • Support live productions, events, and broadcasts

  • Organize and maintain production equipment inventory

  • Shadow staff producers to learn workflows and techniques

 

Qualifications:

  • Interest in video production and media technology

  • Willingness to learn technical skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Some prior coursework or familiarity with media equipment a plus

🎨 Digital Design Intern 🎨

As the Digital Design Intern, you will support TCMedia’s digital presence by creating visual content for social media, websites, and on-screen graphics. This position is ideal for a student interested in digital media, branding, and creative storytelling.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design graphics, motion elements, and layouts for social media and video content

  • Support the creation of marketing and promotional materials

  • Assist with updating web content and visual assets

  • Collaborate with production staff to design show graphics and lower thirds

  • Explore creative ways to engage audiences digitally

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects)

  • Strong eye for visual storytelling and branding

  • Interest in media, marketing, and communications

  • Ability to meet deadlines and follow creative direction

🎨 Media Education Intern 🎨

As the Media Education Class Instructing Intern, you will help develop and deliver educational content for TCMedia’s media training programs. This position is ideal for someone interested in teaching, curriculum development, and digital storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist staff in preparing lesson plans and slides for media education classes

  • Co-teach or lead instruction in areas such as video production, podcasting, or digital

  • design

  • Support students during hands-on workshops and projects

  • Research and recommend new tools, techniques, or resources for classes

  • Help evaluate student progress and provide feedback


Qualifications:

  • Interest in teaching and media education

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

  • Familiarity with any of the following media categories: video, audio, design, or editing

  • Ability to work well with diverse learners and age groups

🎨 Office Intern 🎨

As the Office & Administrative Intern, you will gain experience in nonprofit operations and business administration by supporting day-to-day office tasks at TCMedia. This is a great opportunity for students interested in organizational management and behind-the-scenes media support.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with scheduling, phones, and correspondence

  • Support data entry, filing, and document organization

  • Help track expenses, invoices, and budgets

  • Provide event and program support as needed

  • Assist with membership and community outreach communications

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Comfortable with basic computer applications (Word, Excel, Google Suite)

  • Interest in nonprofit management, communications, or business administration

  • Strong communication and multitasking skills
